Flavor is a combination of taste and scent. And no one knows flavor like a chef. Charleston’s Sean Brock reminds us what Southern food is supposed to taste like by cultivating the heir-loom species with which it was once made. Among the most rare ingredients featured on his menu: Jimmy Red corn, an all-but-lost aromatic variety he helps grow a few miles away from Husk on James Island. We used the husks of a single crop as the heart of this limited-edition scent.
The Jimmy Red perfume pays homage to the Jimmy Red Corn, a fragrant aromatic hardy corn first raised by the natives, now making its comeback through the diligent efforts of some chefs like Sean Brock. The perfume is designed to embody the preciousness of the crop, the history behind it and beautiful shape and color of the crop. The bottle’s design has subtle references to the shape of the corn, the kernel, our Native American ancestors and the husk that holds it all together.

The art of composing diverse pieces in this way helps train the eye in developing a sensitivity to the Influence each form's proportion has on the other elements and to the whole composition. The resultant piece showcased here is one where every element is in harmony with itself and the whole.
